On 28 and 29 April 2026, more than 60 states will discuss scenarios and requirements for a progressive phase-out of fossil fuel extraction and use in Santa Marta, Colombia. In the lead-up to the First Conference on Transitioning away from Fossil Fuels, civil society organisations from across the world have developed a variety of concrete proposals and comprehensive requests to convening governments. In this context, the European human rights network on Colombia, oidhaco, together with 16 Colombian and European human rights organisations, urges the EU and Europe to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels and transform their extractive economic relations with other countries globally and with a particular focus on Latin America and Colombia.
